Glazing windows refer to the window glass. It can either mean the putty utilized to retain glass or the procedure of setting the glazing compound. The essential terms of window glazing are listed below:

Single Glaze

This window consists of one sheet of glass which is not that energy-efficient. This is why it’s mostly found in old homes. Newer developments prefer using other windows which offer better protection. Single glazed windows are incapable of maintaining the temperature inside the house. The HVAC system wears off this way. The single glazed windows will give you high energy bills. In order to achieve extra insulation between the external environment and the window, storm windows should be added.

Double Glaze

These windows include two sheets of glass with some space between them. A harmless Argon gas is present between both glass sheets. Argon gas improves insulation because it’s an inferior heat conductor. The only downside is that this gas can leak with time which needs to be refilled. This window is the most abundant type of glazing which is present in homes.

Triple Glazed

These windows include three sheets of glass having the same Argon gas between them. Triple Glazed windows are the most superior insulator, but also the most expensive among the three types. It is ideal for places having a cold climate.

Low E-Glaze

The low-emissivity glaze is a category of glass that is covered by an invisible coating of metallic oxide. This layer stops heat from entering the glass by the reflection of UV rays in the environment. This type of glass is utilized in triple or double glazed windows to boost efficiency. The low-emissivity glaze does not increase the weight of the windows but the windows having this glaze are more expensive. However, this high price is covered in 5-10 years after the Low E-Glaze decreases the energy bill.
